How does the program work?

Executive Consulting provides a highly qualified nonprofit executive to assume the position of an "interim" professional until a permanent replacement is found. We have stringent protocols that we follow to make sure the right person is doing the right things to help you and your organization.

Is Executive Consulting a temporary employment agency?

Absolutely not. We are a team of nonprofit professionals working together to help you through a smooth transition. We train our people, provide support services, and adhere to strict standards of conduct. Executive Consulting's family of interims has chosen to enhance their management careers by sharing their experience and learning more about transitional leadership, turnaround management, and strategic organizational development.

How much does it cost?

Executive Consulting's Interim Solutions Program has been designed with your current budget in mind. Our goal is to provide your organization with an experienced interim professional in line with the allocated human resource expenses of your organization.

Interim Management: What are the benefits?

For most organizations, an interim executive is the key to a smooth transition for vacancies, new positions and leaves of absence. By appointing an interim, your organization will:

  • Benefit from the skills of a highly experienced nonprofit professional
  • Benefit from a professional who is viewing your organization from an external perspective
  • Find the time needed to find the right person for the ongoing, regular position

How do we go about securing an interim for our organization?

The process for securing an interim is easy:

  • An interim job description and 90-day performance objectives are developed and approved.
  • A scope of work outlines the work goals and defines the successful interim relationship.
  • A structured candidate recruitment and selection process assures the right fit for your organization.
  • A dedicated interim executive client service manager works with both you and the interim to assure that objectives are met.
  • On-going access to Executive Consulting support services is available at lower rates to solve problems or design specific consulting projects to meet immediate needs.

Who does the interim work for?

The interim is your temporary employee. You are the employer of record. Your interim is affiliated with Executive Consulting and has complete access to all of our collective expertise and resources to assist them in their efforts. This includes access to professional services such as nonprofit law, auditing, human resources and facilitation. It is for you and the interim to determine whether it is better for your situation to secure the interim as an independent consultant or a temporary employee.

Can we see more than one candidate for the interim position?

Yes. However, that means we didn't do our job. Once we understand what your needs are during the transitional period, Executive Consulting will provide the interim executive we believe is the very best fit. We do not like to create competition among our interims; they are a team of professionals.

Should we be looking for the same qualities in an interim that we want in the full-time replacement?

Absolutely not. The immediate needs of your organization dictate what specific skills are needed immediately to help you progress through a positive transition period. There may be specific projects currently underway that would benefit from a particular skill set, or there is an organizational climate that would benefit from a professional with a highly experienced skill set.

Can you guarantee that we will get an interim if we sign an agreement?

No, we can't guarantee that we will have a qualified professional readily available at the very moment you have a need for an interim. Because we are not a temporary agency, we work with a team of professionals that have been hand-selected and screened. We work diligently to make sure we have ample skills for what the market demands, but we cannot guarantee that at all times.

What if we want to hire the interim as the full-time replacement?

Executive Consulting discourages this as a consideration. Hiring the interim can compromise the integrity of the role that a good interim plays, and it can significantly have a negative impact on your community-wide search process. Executive search firms have come to see Executive Consulting as a trusted partner in the search process. When our clients see interims as candidates it threatens to change the reputation and standing of our company among the professional executive search community. If, however, you do decide to offer the position to the interim, a significantly above market fee is assessed for the recruitment and placement costs for both of our organizations.

What if something goes wrong?

Our Client Services Department is in communication with you every month to make sure things are going right. We also insist on our interims developing a set of performance objectives for the first six months for a fair evaluation. Executive Consulting will do everything possible to make sure that a successful transition can be orchestrated. We will replace the interim if necessary to make sure that your needs are being met during a crucial period.
